The Lundquist FamilyBy Habitat Red Deer on
Dawn and her children Trayden (8), Tristan and Tahliah (2 ½) have been selected as one of our families for our most recent Blackfalds build! Born and raised in Red Deer Dawn heeded her mom’s suggestion to apply for Habitat home. Nervous about it – she followed through because she wanted a safe home for her children, to be proud to come home and lastly – to be a homeowner!
Currently Dawn shares a room with her daughter Tahliah and says the issues with the house are overwhelming at times. From plumbing problems to pests and leaks, Dawn notes her eldest knows all the goings on in the house and says it just does not feel like home.
Excited about their own space the family looks forward to having a larger kitchen, more than one bathroom and to finally get a cat (says Trayden)! They already plan to build a fence, set up a play space outside and finish the basement. With the stability of a safe space to live the family hopes to continue their annual camping trips with hopes to finally make it all the way across the country on a family road trip.
Dawn has been supporting many different causes she is passionate about in our community and while working full time, raising three children, and volunteering every weekend can be difficult – it is so worth it, she noted! Our youngest volunteer, Trayden has been contributing to volunteer hours by working at the Humane Society and helping support Habitat with art and writing projects like ‘Meaning of Home’.
Celebrating a new chapter in their lives Dawn says her children will know that this is their forever home and that mom has got their back!
