Habitat for Humanity Red Deer was recently lucky enough to host 4 Electrical Instructors from Red Deer College for two Group Build Days on our newest home build site in Lacombe, AB! Not only did their share with us their vast knowledge and experience in their electrical work they completed for the homes, we were even luckier that they wanted to share their thoughts and reflections about their Volunteer Experience with our community! See below for their kind words.
We wanted to take the time to reflect on my experience volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. We feel extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to volunteer for this charity. We could have volunteered at any time, however the opportunity to volunteer with my coworkers at RDC made the idea seem a lot more valuable.
We would like to extend a thank you to RDC for making this opportunity available through Professional Development, even though they didn’t have to. It was an extremely fun and worthy team building experience. We would recommend the opportunity to anyone at the college or elsewhere who is looking for a noble way to donate their time and skillset.
Dealing with Alyson Frost from Habitat was easy and straight forward. She was extremely polite, enthusiastic and made sure we were well equipped to help out. The site supervisor, Todd was also awesome to work with. We received T-shirts, coffee and hot lunch on the days we volunteered. In all it was a very easy, seamless process that I would do again and recommend in a heartbeat.
We think it would be a great relationship to continue with for years to come. The four of us that volunteered have stated that we would be willing to do this type of event multiple times a year. We have extend our services with Habitat to offer our expertise in any way that they see could help. We realize with the use of volunteers there is a lot of back end work that needs to be done by skilled individuals. We were happy to offer our time and assistance in any aspect that may come up.
In all in was a very positive experience for us as instructors, electricians and members of the community.
Thanks, Nick Hermary, Shane Hanson, Andrew Payce, Tim Froehler
