The Vista Triplex in Sylvan Lake!
Our most current build is situated in Sylvan Lake - it is the first home in Sylvan Lake that Habitat for Humanity Red Deer has built! Located at 4040 Ryders Ridge Boulevard in Sylvan Lake, our Vista Triplex is set to be completed in late September/early October.
Wow, where has most August gone? Thankfully, we have been working hard through August at the build site, and our awesome volunteers have helped out in big ways this month. On August 8th, Dow Canada came out and a group of 12 helped us install the laminate in the triplex, and they also started the patching for painting. Thank you, Dow! Habitat for Humanity Red Deer looks forward to hosting another Dow team on August 22 - where we plan to continue in the 2nd stage of finishing on the triplex. Also in August, Bruin's Plumbing and Heating installed the last 2 tankless water tanks at the build site as well! Thank you, Bruin's.
July has been a busy month at the build site! In early July, the first coat of paint was finished in all three units of the triplex! We completed the task of hanging all doors, and we also worked on filling and painting ledges and caps within the units as well. Countertops have been prepared, and will be installed in the near future.
The sidewalks at the triplex have been poured, and we have begun installing the heaters and HRV units. We held our 2nd Women's Build at the Vista on July 19. Fourteen wonderful volunteers helped Habitat for Humanity Red Deer paint 75% of the doors in the triplex at this event!
May & June 2019
We have made EXCELLENT progress over the past few months at the Vista Triplex, located at 4040 Ryders Ridge Boulevard, in beautiful Sylvan Lake! Much of May was spent working at the drywall/mudding/taping stages, which has been followed up with priming and painting!
We held our Women's Day Build on May 31, where a team of 11 very helpful volunteers helped us with their painting skills. Thank you, ladies! Your hard work was much appreciated; we can not thank our volunteers enough for their hard work.
Our next Theme Build is our Father's Day Build, on June 11 from 9:00am - 4:30pm at our Vista site. We will be installing cabinets during this build: we encourage volunteers to sign up for this event, either through our website at http://www.habitatreddeer.volunteerhub.com or through email: contact our Volunteer & Communications Coordinator at Tori.Gilbertson@habitatreddeer.ca
In February, the cold set back the build timeline a few weeks but we were glad to power through as quickly as we could! The exterior of The Vista is up with the two floors receiving framing and the trusses up and roof set to reach completion. We've had the generous donation of a trailer for site staff and volunteers as well as lunches and are ready for volunteers to help out on site come late March. Thank you Hopkins Trucking, FCSS Sylvan Lake and Summer Villages, Havco Construction, Zytech, and Pass Electric for the donation of materials and services to support this build.
Excavation and foundation pouring took place over the winter holidays to begin to prepare for framing. Thank you to Carbon Earthworks, Bildex Construction, Cobijar, and Lafarge for their contribution in materials and labour at this stage of the process. Services have been installed by Atco Gas and Pass Electric with framing underway by Havco Construction.
The families for The Vista are chosen and begin to work towards completing 500 volunteer hours each before they can move into the completed homes in fall 2019. Congratulations to the Dodd family, the Redford family, and the Schatz family! Habitat Red Deer also participated in its first-ever parade with the help of the Dodd and Redford family to decorate and attend the Sylvan Lake Santa Claus Parade.
Habitat Red Deer hosts the official Groundbreaking Ceremony to mark the commencement of the project! Thank you to the Town of Sylvan Lake Staff and Council as well as Melcor Developments in helping to secure land for the build. The Vista triplex is not only the first-ever Habitat build in the community of Sylvan Lake, but also will be a 2019 legacy build marking the 25th year anniversary of Habitat for Humanity Red Deer, making this build a truly special one.
