Habitat Red Deer's Buy Back Program

Habitat Red Deer's Buy Back Program helps support the Affordable Homeownership program and allows us to serve families in Central Alberta by having the option to repurchase an existing Habitat-built home from a family who is ready to move on. When a home is repurchased in the Buy Back Program, the homeowner's family receives the equity accrued over the time they occupied the home. Families often use the equity they earn to purchase a market-priced home. As needed, we repair and update the buy-back home and begin the selection process for another eligible family to partner with us. The Buy Back program ensures Habitat Homes will serve multiple families for many years to come.

Habitat homeowners who purchase a Buy Back home apply to and complete the same steps for the Affordable Homeownership Program as homeowners who purchase a new-build home. We host Family Information Sessions for homes in the Buy Back Program as they become available. To date, we have served 65 families through the Buy Back program.

We recognize that the land on which we work, gather, and live is within the territory of the Blackfoot, Tsuu T’ina, and Stoney Nakoda peoples and that the Central Alberta region we serve falls under Treaty 6, traditional Métis, Cree, and Saulteaux territory. We acknowledge and honour the First Peoples who have lived here since time immemorial. We stand with the Indigenous peoples of Alberta and continue to advocate for reconciliation.
