Interested in applying to become a Habitat homeowner?

We recommend you first review the eligibility criteria for our Affordable Homeownership Program, listed on the Benefits and Criteria page.

The Steps for applying to the Affordable Homeownership Program:

  1. Attend a Family Information Session. These sessions are hosted by Habitat Red Deer when we have homes available for families to apply for. We hold Information Sessions both in person and online to accommodate families' busy schedules and circumstances. These sessions are an opportunity for families to learn more about the Affordable Homeownership Program and our current or upcoming homes available. We advertise these sessions on our website, social media, and newsletter. Use the sign-up form below to add your name to the list of people invited to the next session.

  2. After you have attended a Family Information Session, you will be provided with an Application Form. We advise you to take this form home and spend time completing the form to the best of your ability. Once complete, you can submit the Home Application Form to our Family Services Manager. Please note that applications are only accepted during family selection periods, not year-round. Applications must be submitted before the deadline given when you receive the application.

  3. You will be contacted for a home visit and interview if your application qualifies. During this time, you will also submit various documents, such as income verification and a personal reference. Applications that do not qualify for the next step will be contacted in a timely manner.

  4. After your home visit, our Family Services committee will review all information and make all final decisions. We will notify applicants if they have been selected to become homeowners. Once approved, families will meet with the Habitat Red Deer CEO and Family Services Manager and will be able to begin partnership hours.

We recognize that the land on which we work, gather, and live is within the territory of the Blackfoot, Tsuu T’ina, and Stoney Nakoda peoples and that the Central Alberta region we serve falls under Treaty 6, traditional Métis, Cree, and Saulteaux territory. We acknowledge and honour the First Peoples who have lived here since time immemorial. We stand with the Indigenous peoples of Alberta and continue to advocate for reconciliation.
