Get to Know Kathy

Get to know Kathy! Kathy is our ReStore Director of Operations. If you have visited our ReStore you probably have met Kathy! She is always helpful and ready to share a laugh.

Kathy’s role at Habitat Red Deer is ReStore Director of Operations. This means that she oversees the ReStore and its day-to-day operations. Kathy also is responsible for procurement. She meets with local Central Alberta businesses to build relationships and discuss donating to the ReStore. These corporate donations support the ReStore in having good-quality items for shoppers! With our move to Gasoline Alley and a larger space (40 percent larger!), Kathy has made sure we have a variety of items in stock in all departments. The store always has new and unique items for our customers. Kathy helps with all the ReStore events and campaigns, making sure people are learning about the ReStore and how they can get involved.

Kathy shared that she enjoys many aspects of her role. What really stands out to her is the generosity of so many people who are willing to donate amazing items to help people they have never met. People in our community have been willing to go above and beyond to support others. This makes such a difference!

Kathy would like more people in the community to know about the ReStore and the impact that it has on the community. Some people do not realize that the ReStore is part of Habitat Red Deer. The proceeds from sales made by

the Habitat Red Deer ReStore go directly to Habitat Red Deer’s mission of helping families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership. This means when you purchase building supplies, homewares, clothing, or anything from the ReStore you are directly helping us build affordable homes for working, low-income, Central Alberta families. Who knew your next home renovation could make such an impact in the community?

We recognize that the land on which we work, gather, and live is within the territory of the Blackfoot, Tsuu T’ina, and Stoney Nakoda peoples and that the Central Alberta region we serve falls under Treaty 6, traditional Métis, Cree, and Saulteaux territory. We acknowledge and honour the First Peoples who have lived here since time immemorial. We stand with the Indigenous peoples of Alberta and continue to advocate for reconciliation.
